Manuel I Komnenos (28 November 1118 – 24 September 1180), Latinized as Comnenus, also called Porphyrogenitus ("born in the purple"), was a Byzantine emperor of the 12th century who reigned over a crucial turning point in the history of Byzantium and the Mediterranean.

Manuel I (31 May 146913 December 1521), known as the Fortunate, was King of Portugal from 1495 to 1521.

On 5 December 1496, King Manuel I of Portugal signed the decree of expulsion of Jews and Muslims to take effect by the end of October of the next year.
