If, in a stream which does not ordinarily silt, a regulator or movable weir causes, when the water is headed up, some silt deposit, the cessation of the heading up not only removes the tendency to silt, but the section of the stream, at the place where the deposit occurred, is less than elsewhere, and there is thus a tendency to scour there.
